Treasure Hunt

Cairns Student Lodge held a “Treasure Hunt” for students by students, on Sunday, 7 October 2018. It was a great success with over $200 in prizes and vouchers up for grabs.

Alex, the Lodge Event Hub Co-ordinator was the Game Master and organised the event for the Sunday morning.

The aim of the Treasure Hunt was to have some fun and to, more importantly, get students out of their rooms. With exams on the way, too many students were hibernating and not exercising nor enjoying the fresh air. Students also needed an excuse to rest their eyes from their computer screens and books.

The Treasure Hunt started in the Function Room at 9.30am. Students enjoyed a bit of a sleep in and they also had a chance to have breakfast prior to the challenges of decoding the cryptic clues.

Updates were given by Alex on the whiteboard and the game was over in an hour or so. Students frequently checked in to ensure they were not trying to find a treasure that had aleady been found.

The clues were based on locations around the Lodge. It was a bit like a crossword puzzle. However, instead of writing your answers on a page, you had to physically go to the location and search for carefully concealed envelopes. To add an extra depth of craftiness and deception, the envelopes at the locations were even hiding under rocks or under the seats of chairs too. Nothing like an additional competitive edge to the challenge!
